BUSH ON WAITRESSES
In a radio address at the beginning of the month, Bush waxed hypothetical: "Picture a diner in one of our cities," he said - let's pretend it's L.A. - and a waitress serving coffee and toast to a wealthy lawyer, inexplicably slumming at a low-rent dive. Both have two kids. The waitress earns $25,000, the lawyer 10 times that amount. We can flesh the picture out a bit by giving the lawyer a home in the clean mountain air of La Caņada and the waitress a cramped apartment in polluted South Gate. The lawyer's kids go to Harvard-Westlake, the waitress' to public school. The lawyer drives the proverbial Lexus; the waitress rides the bus and has no use whatsoever for Tom Daschle's muffler. OK pResident BUSH,
Now ya did IT! This is too close to home for this disgruntled waitress! You manage to insult me directly and demean my profession in general. Also true that my tax bill is already negligible because I have custody of a grand child. This year I did have to contribute $300 dollars (at an income of $23,000) so the BIG tax cut might save me 300 by doubling the child credit to $1000 dollars.
Maybe allowing me to purchase a yearbook or 2/3 the cost of a class ring for my grandchild in PUBLIC SCHOOL, which you obviously find sub-standard just like the "low rent dive" I work at. (Which is an entrepreneurial enterprise I assumed you would be supportive of... Go figure!)
Maybe I should not BELIEVE everything I read about your agenda?
Also worth NOTING and TRUE that my Social Security check will be 477.00 dollars a month after 40 YEARS of working. Compare that to YOUR retirement or the plan for Congress.....
While you are in the mood to look into and COMMENT my life style, please explain WHY servers are to be EXCLUDED from any Minimum Wage hikes to come. Does my $2.13 cent an hour present wage disturb YOU?
Look at it this way: Had I gotten a 25 cent per hour increase, YOU could have kept even MORE than my 300.00 in income tax last year! You are missing a windfall there!
A reply would be appreciated but not EXPECTED, as I AM one of those "fringe people" that don't buy into the GOP agenda. Fell free to just do what you do BEST and just "Move Ahead."
