Please accept this check to cover your annual dues for NOW. By doing this it makes me feel like I've actually done something worthwhile. A couple years back National sent calendars and then asked for a $40 donation (above and beyond the normal annual dues). Rather than just give them more money for a calendar than I would normally spend, I chose to write a check for $40 to cover dues for my mother and my cousin Jenn so that National got the money they were angling for plus I helped to increase the membership ranks.
You'll also see the letters attached that I hope you will pop in the mail for me to go along with the dues.
Please allow me to do this. It feels at times that you can send letters and faxes and calls and emails and you wonder whether or not anyone ever listens. Well, this check will if nothing else guarantee that you can get the National NOW Times sent to your house. That and it will give me the pleasure of being able to refer to you as a NOW sister.

Dear Mr. Bush:
I am extending greetings to celebrate your birthday. You may remember that I sent you a similar greeting to mark President's Day. I along with countless American women followed the idea by Los Angeles Times columnist Patt Morrison and donated money in your name to an organization supporting women's reproductive rights. At that time I sent my donation directly to California NOW. This time I'm doing more. I'm helping to swell the membership ranks of NOW by paying the annual dues of a kick-ass activist that I am proud to call my friend. If it hadn't been for the close election last fall and how your compatriots showed their utter disdain for democratic principles by allowing recounts to occur unimpeded, I might never have met The Diva.
Instead, I along with millions of Americans lost sleep over the whole protracted period. We worried that our Democracy was in peril. When I heard that the Supreme Court agreed to take the case I feel impending doom.
My husband was optimistic and thought that they would just slap your lawyers down and reprimand you for wanting a subversion of the democratic process. I was afraid that they would use twisted, convoluted reasoning that would somehow hand you the presidency. That certainly would have been a time when I would have relished telling my husband that "he was right and I was wrong." Instead, the unthinkable occurred on December 12th. Since then, I have taken it on as my mission to expose to the world how you and your conspirators shredded Our Constitution. In this quest I found allies such as The Diva that have proven to me that 1) I am not alone, 2) there was a coordinated campaign to disenfranchise voters 3) what was done to our Constitution is treason.
I grew up during the Watergate era and therefore I did not grow up with the
awe and respect that my elders used to have for political leaders. And now I have lived to see my vote as well as millions of other American's vaporized as if we did not cast any ballots or didn't matter. Because of this, you will never earn my vote nor my respect. I highly doubt that there will be much that you can do to ever get the vote so close in 2004 so that you can be re-appointed. You certainly under no circumstances could be 're-elected' since you were never elected in the first place.
