LONG BEACH (coup2k.com) March 22, 2001 -- Rick Hauptman, California Democratic Party Computer Caucus Chair, in a written statement yesterday, declared "The Diva" a "total a**hole," and the BBBR website "a mess."  Many Resistance Fighters took the time to write letters of defense and support.  The following is a public expression of gratitude from "The Diva" to her Champions:

Dear Champions of The Diva:

I have been fortunate enough, both at Radio Free BBBR, and in my mailbox, to receive wonderful letters from many activists who have been very supportive and incredibly encouraging during my bad patch these last couple of days. My printer has been busy for well over 24 hours, as I have been printing these letters to keep.

This is one indulgence I am allowing myself -- a booklet of "pep talk papers." Hopefully, the next time all hell breaks loose, I will remember to pull out and read these letters, before I start thinking crazy thoughts, like that I should quit.

(If that makes me "egotistical" or "sad," I plead guilty, and throw myself on the mercy of the court.)

I want all of you to know that I am doing much better now. Better enough, thanks to all of you, to see the humor in this situation, and to satirize it on my site. I have you to thank for that:

Between Edwin's diagnosis of Hauptman's "bitch complex," Melinda's extrapolation of the diagnosis to include the "poncy" symptom, Linda's willingness to let the Democratic Party in on what is going on and to get back to me with info on his reputation in the Party, Travis' offer of help and immediate recognition of "The Clymer Coincidence", Marcy's intelligence on Hauptman's eGroup track record, Rose's (fringefolk founder's) decision to call the Party about what happened, Mark's encouragement to take this to Michael, Lynne's (my new sister's) call to me as soon as she found out I was hurting, Sandy's (my almost-sister-in-law's) call this afternoon to tell me to use my humor to stand up for myself, Nancy K's encouragement that I file a formal complaint with the Democratic Party, Kris' insistence that the Party needs to Roto-Rooter out the folks who undermine our efforts, Nancy S's encouragement to blow off "strange" people who hurt and do not help, Gina's position on adhering to a fruitcake-free diet, and, of course, My Consort, Chuck's, willingness to let me run the noisy carpet machine during the wee hours of the morning while he was sleeping Tuesday night (he knew that it would help me unwind and sort things out...)

Well, all these things helped to bring me back into "balance," if you know what I mean. In all honesty, I admit that I am a very sensitive person, perhaps too sensitive, and that I really hate it when I am accused or attacked, with no opportunity to defend myself. That kind of thing drives me up the wall. I'm not a "last word" freak, or anything like that, I just like to have a chance to reason with people, to plead my case.

Clearly, that is not going to happen with Mr. Hauptman.

But after all this time, and especially after the media's non-handling of the coup story, I should have learned that humor often works where logic fails. It's also a great way to expose the ridiculous, the false, and the wrong.

So, to that end, I wrote a satire of THS (The Hauptman Situation) for the BBBR, inspired by all of you, by everything you have written, and all your brilliant "takes" on THS.

Barring some further development that demands comment, this Open Letter will be my final site post on Hauptman. I am ready to "move on" (all except for wishing gonad zits on him for the rest of his life...)

And please know that I appreciate everything you have done for me, and been to me, these last months. You are my silver lining, my heroes, my champions, my sanity, my salvation, my support, my friends, and my allies.
