Diva,
I love your website and read it every day. After reading the report about your confirmation that you are a "black woman", I know now that so am I. I hope the rest of my black kin will allow me to join their ranks.
My eyes are hazel, my hair is dirty blond, and my skin only turns dark in the summer. But my rage about the way this election was stolen will NOT go away just because the media keeps telling us to "heal". I will keep fighting with the rest of my black sisters and brothers until we win!
Rebecca
[DIVA NOTE: ONE CORRECTION, REBECCA: THE MEDIA DOESN'T WANT US TO 'HEAL', THEY WANT US TO 'HEEL'. THE DIVA AND HER NEW FAMILY (YOURS, TOO, NOW) AIN'T NO DOGS, THOUGH, SO THEY ARE IN FOR SOME BIG SURPRISES!]

Dear Diva,
Thanks for the revelation. Upon reading your essay, I came to realized that I too am black, and like you, I am black because I care. After all the media attention toward how "blacks" care about the fouled up election in Florida, and whites do not, I'm reminded of Melville's long discussion of how white is actually much more frightening than black.
You know what? He was right.
My wife agrees that she must be black, too. We both live in the Lost Angeles Area, so I was wondering if there was going to be some kind of ceremony to welcome all the new black people to the fold. I think it would be wonderfully media-genic if such a thing could be set up.
Once again, thanks for the revelation.
Alex
[THE DIVA REPLIES:
Dear Alex and Mrs.:
I think you are on to something. I think an excellent ceremonial gesture would be to march alongside our new sisters and brothers on Martin Luther King Day. Dr. King is, after all, one of the greatest heroes of our race, or of any other. We could carry signs that proudly proclaim our new racial identification, and commitment to democracy and justice. Maybe something like "A SISTER IN THE FIGHT FOR JUSTICE" or "YOUR BROTHER IN THE FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY?"
What do you think? Any ideas on the wording of our signs? I would be honored to create the designs.
Let me know what you think...]

Dear Diva:
I too have decided to switch races.
Black is beautiful.
Black is strong.
I am proud today!
Power to the People!

[DIVA NOTE: ON BEHALF OF MY PEOPLE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR FLATTERING WORDS, LAURIE, AND WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!]
