Dear Diva,
Your old troublemaking roommate from Texas A&M here. I didn't know that I was black either until now! But it's not surprising, really. Since 90% of African American voters voted for Gore, they were obviously ahead of all of us.
Anyway, I love the t-shirts and I would buy one or two if you made them, just so you know!!!
Finally, today Linda Chavez withdrew herself from consideration for Labor Secretary, telling Peter Jennings she didn't really want the job all that much. Another lie. Q: What's the difference between her and Zoe Baird? A: I don't remember Baird lying to us about what happened, as opposed to Chavez saying she didn't know her 'guest' was an illegal immigrant who happened to do a lot of housework. Gee, don't we all have guests like that in our homes?

P.S. As for the moron who emailed you, I can attest to your smarts personally, and I would advise him to cease before he gets in even more over his head!!!
[DIVA NOTE TO MONKEY BOY: YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO THE NICE LADY. SHE IS A REAL-LIVE LAWYER, WICKED-SMART, AND GIVING YOU FREE ADVICE. IF I WERE YOU {{{SHUDDER}}}, I'D TAKE IT.]

I had the same experience. The media tells me that white people, even white Democrats, don't care, are apathetic, etc. You know, as I watched, and felt so proud of, and identified so much with, those magnificent American members of Congress on Saturday, and listened, and cried, I knew that I must be black, though light-skinned. I had suspected it for some weeks, since I was feeling all the emotions reported as "black-thangs" about this presidential selection. But Saturday, I finally knew for sure that I couldn't be white any more.
You said it all, Sister! Where do I sign up?

[DIVA NOTE: DON'T WORRY, DONNA, YOU ALREADY DID.]

I propose you add a page of names of those who newly discovered they are black. I invite and welcome you to add my name to it.
[DIVA NOTE: ONE PAGE IS NOT ENOUGH, JOSEPH. READ ON.]
"I'm not black, but there's a whole lot of times I wish I could say I'm not white." -- Frank Zappa
Now, there are some kinks to be worked out: if one is black, and is prevented from voting… is that 'legitimizing?' Or 'not voting because black?'
And if one manages to vote though black (a hypothetical, as none of my white senators have responded to assure me I still have the right to vote, though they don't yet know I'm black), then is one 'voting while black?'
Getting the hang of this 'black thang', as you can see, has its complications, but you already knew that.
Hang in there, Sistah!

P.S. My Senators are Kennedy and Kerry. They were silent while the CBC stood up for our right to vote. Kerry lied that he did not hear from anyone urging support of that protest: I called his office, and faxed it twice, as I did Kennedy. [DIVA NOTE: DON'T THESE GUYS REALIZE THAT FAXES AND E-MAILS LEAVE AN ELECTRONIC TRAIL? I GUESS NOT. TIME TO SIGN THEM ALL UP FOR A LEARNING ANNEX COURSE.]
