Dear Morning Edition-
As a devoted listener of many years I listened with interest to the story about Hillary Clinton's fundraiser, especially the quotes of signs of conservative protesters concerning "house of ill repute" and "dis-graceland". In the interest of fairness I would humbly suggest that from now on NPR include quotes from the ubiquitous signs and protests that have accompanied appearances by the Bushes and the Supreme Court including "Toxic Texan" "His Fraudulence" and, in keeping with the tone of the comments reported on your story this morning, one of my personal favorites, "No More Bushit". As long as the Conservatives get their air time I believe that those of us with a countervailing opinion be allowed ours. Thank you very much for your consideration.
Sincerely, Geoffrey D. Los Angeles
ACLU ACTION ALERT UPDATE - VOUCHERS
Subject: 04-26-01 -- ACLU Action Update: Voucher Vote Likely in Senate TO: ACLU Action Network FR: Jared Feuer, Internet Organizer DT: April 26, 2001
During the next few days, President George W. Bush's voucher proposal is expected to be offered on the Senate floor as an amendment to a major education bill.
Vouchers offer nothing but the illusion of "choice" for the vast majority of public school students. At best, they allow a few students to be carefully selected by private schools that have the luxury of deciding whom they want to admit while funneling desperately needed funds away from public schools. Additionally, religious schools are not required to comply with many federal civil rights laws and can exclude a student based on their religion, gender or learning or physical disabilities.
Take Action!
When tax dollars are taken out of public schools to support vouchers for the few, the majority of students are left with fewer resources, teachers, textbooks and facilities. You can read more and send a FREE FAX, asking your Senators to oppose efforts to include vouchers in the education funding bill, from our action alert at: http://www.aclu.org/action/vouchers107.html
p.s. As you will notice on our action alert, we have made changes to the system to reflect your requests for a faster, more flexible and easier to use action tool. We are excited to offer these additions to our website, and we hope you will find them to be a useful change. If you have any questions about the new system, we have prepared a guide at: http://www.aclu.org/congress/actionguide.html
TELEMARKETING ALERT - By Lynne E (Edited Version)
I got this idea - actually upon using it this morning. It is:
WHEN SOME WORTHY GROUP CALLS or writes TO ASK FOR MONEY SAY:
"I CAN'T GIVE MONEY NOW BECAUSE I AM WORKING WITH THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, WHERE ALL MY MONEY GOES NOW, BECAUSE THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY ANTI-DEMOCRATIC FORCES AND BIG MONEY. THE ELECTION WAS STOLEN, AND THE THIEVING REPUBLICAN PARTY CONTROLS ALL THREE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT. WHEN DEMOCRACY HAS RETURNED TO AMERICA, I WILL RESUME PLEDGING MONEY TO OTHER CAUSES.
It was the fire department calling this morning - the members can all talk to one another - I am sure this was a first for them - police department as well - Girl Scouts, cancer foundation, March of Dimes, whatever. Maybe even your church/synagogue/mosque!
BASICALLY IT IS A BOYCOTT UNTIL PEOPLE/GROUPS COME TO THEIR SENSES.
Moreover, it is the TRUTH. Any money I have goes to the Democratic party, related groups and protests.
Lynne Elisabeth
