From: "Denise Duffield" <Author of E-Groups Performance> To: "BBBR Resistance" <thediva@coup2k.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2001 10:05 PM Subject: diva inspiration yet again
Hi Tammy,
Just wanted to let you know you were inspiration for me once again. I have a great story for you... Remember way back when we first communicated about the Bush folk at the Westwood protests, and how I felt intimidated by them, you told me that you had made a sign that said "I'm with stupid" and followed a Bush supporter with it? Well, I borrowed the idea at the protest in Century City today, with hysterical results.
One lone guy with a Bush/Cheney sign is prancing around, getting into it with the other protesters. He spots another Bush guy, and goes to commiserate with him. The reporters of course are all over the poor outnumbered Bush duo, and begin taking their photos. I am sickened, till I remembered what you had done. I grabbed paper and a marker and made my very own "I'm with Stupid" sign, and went next to the Bushwacker.
Eventually (not for some time), he noticed me. Below is a near word-for-word of what transpired:
BUSHWACKER: I don't get it. Who's "stupid?"
Me: (Silence. Smile.)
BW: Really, I don't get your sign. Whose side are you on, I can't tell.
Me: (Silence. Smile.)
BW: Who is "stupid"?
Me: (Silence. Smile)
BW: Come on. Who is "stupid"?
Me: Dubya.
BW: Oh, good, I voted for him too.
Can you believe it? Case closed! Geez... I was also holding a Global Warming Bush (GWB) sign... and dressed in khaki's, and an Indian print halter top with beads... not exactly Republican gear... Stupid isn't the word.
At this point in the exchange, Chris Hume came over to me and started talking, made his own "I'm with stupid" sign, and began to argue with the Bushwacker over energy policy. Mr. Stupid finally "got" whose side I was on, and asked me if I liked "Clinton the rapist." The fun was over, so I left Chris to argue the energy facts (which he is much better equipped to do.)
Anyway, it was a hoot. Thanks again. Some lefties got photos of the incident and if one comes my way, I'll send it on to you. I'm sorry I missed VoterMarch, I just couldn't get my sh*t together. I know I'll see you soon in this insane struggle. Maybe on July 4th at the Long Beach protest?
Peace, Denise

QUOTABLE AND LOVABLE: STEVEN TYLER!

The same man who penned "Love in an Elevator" is now the author of THE SPORTS QUOTE OF THE YEAR: Tyler sang the national anthem Sunday at the Indy 500... and not only substituted the words "the home of the Indianapolis 500" for "the home of the brave," he dropped this beauty on the Associated Press: "I watched Gomer for most of my teenager years," Tyler said. "And Florence, well, you know. It's all good." I repeat: "I watched Gomer for most of my teenage years. And Florence, well, you know. It's all good."

Rarely does U.S. culture reach a confluence... When Tyler sang at Indy, and polished off his takes on Gomer Pyle and Mrs. Brady ... well, it's all good. No wonder this man had the mental acuity to write, in the unforgettable tune "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)": "She had the body of a Venus/Lord, imagine my surprise!" - Brian Murphey, "Hit the Cooler" May 28, 2001

"The last few years in scouting have deeply saddened me, to see the Boy Scouts of America actively and publicly participating in discrimination. It's a real shame. I thought the Boy Scouts stood for equal opportunity and I have consistently spoken out publicly and privately against intolerance and discrimination based on ethnic, religious, racial, and sexual orientation. Once scouting opens its doors to all who desire the same experience that so fully enriched me as a young person, I will be happy to reconsider a role on the advisory board." - Steven Speilberg on Quitting The Boy Scouts of America Advisory Board over their Anti-Gay Membership Policy

"Even though the first two lines on the monument's text appear in significantly larger font than the remainder, they are ignored by the DISSENTERS. Those lines read: "THE TEN COMMANDMENTS--I AM THE LORD THY GOD." The graphic emphasis placed on those first lines is rather hard to square with the proposition that the monument expresses no particular religious preference -- particularly when considered in conjunction with those facts that the DISSENT does acknowledge -- namely that the monument also depicts two Stars of David and a symbol composed of the Greek letters Chi and Rho superimposed on each other that represent Christ."
