Ah, yes, those heady days not so long ago, when Al Gore was only up a cool 350K or so… Back when we thought that number was impressive… Back when we thought there was still a chance for fair resolution of all the weirdness in THE BUSH BROTHERS BANANA REPUBLIC.
Tonight, the preliminary numbers from a week ago became final and official, according to the Associated Press. So, back into PhotoShop I went, to change the score again, and probably for the last time.
How I wish this was a game. How I wish I could treat it with the same goofy equanimity that "the press" does. But I can't. I voted. I voted on a punch card ballot. One with no instructions about "chads," those little pieces of ballot hardly any of us had heard about before this election… Before All Hell Broke Loose.
So when I look at those numbers, I am proud of Al. Yes, I am. He kicked El Doofus' butt up around his ears, and I'm proud of him for that. But the thing is, when I look at those numbers… I don't know if my vote is included, and I never will… And that pisses me off.
