Good News/Bad
News:
A BBBR Bunker
Update
Posted June 14, 2001
Dear Resistance
Fighters:
I apologize for
the lack of a site update the last few days.
My tardy update was a result of both happy and unhappy developments.
First, the good
news:
CoupCat Coco's radiation levels
have dropped off wonderfully, and as of June 12, it is now safe to cuddle her
at will. We no longer have to keep our
distance from her, banish her from the bedroom, or scrub down after physical
contact. She is doing GREAT. Have you ever seen the cartoon "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi?"
You know the
part where Rikki-Tikki-Tavi runs and stops, then his tail shakes, his whiskers
twitch, and his eyes positively SPARKLE?
Well, that's
CoupCat Coco. She is just awesome. She is gaining weight, purring like crazy,
and so lovable I can hardly stand it.
I am so happy.
She still has
to go back for her four-week follow-up (to make sure all of the tumor tissue
was destroyed), but as far as I can tell, her radiation therapy was a success.
A second bit of
good news... I received my first bulk order for BBBR Buttons, which inspired me
to create some new designs. (A couple
of the new designs are now personal favorites), and I will be posting the new
button art soon at the BBBR Coup
Couture Mall Page. I have Linda
McCabe to thank for this burst of artistic creativity, and also to thank for
paying my national NOW dues. (Cash has been tight in the BBBR Bunker, and
I appreciate her generosity more than I can ever say.)
One Snappy Diva
Salute for Linda McCabe, Resistance Fighter and Philanthropist.
And now, for
the bad news...
On June 11,
Rose Thomas wrote an inspired rant, "Reality Check." In her rant, she said:
"Recently, a
fellow on a discussion list asked a friend of mine if she felt that the
liberal/progressive groups she supported had any shortcomings. The question was
phrased in a very reasonable tone, yet the underlying suggestion was that my
friend was not being terribly objective in her condemnation of the right-wing
lunatic extremists running amok through the smoking ruins of our
democracy."
I am the friend
she is talking about.
I am the one
who had received the
following request:
"...And if you have the time please write and let us know your twenty worse faults and shortcomings and the twenty worst deficiencies of the liberals groups you are in. Or are there any shortcomings in your opinion?"
Well, Rose's decision to come to my defense via rant earned her the negative attention of Rick Hauptman. Many of you already know who Mr. Hauptman is, but for those of you who don't...
Rick Hauptman is, well, a problem (for lack of a better term). For more info, you can see the following links:

Mr. Hauptman
saw Rose's rant posted on the VoterSF YahooGroup, and took the initiative to
use that as his springboard for attack:

check from Rose of Fringefolk.com
I think some of the folks like
Diva and Rose could use a "reality check" themselves. Even if ya
mildly disagree with them, they get their bloomers all in a bunch and call you
a Freeper. Talk about the inmates running the asylum.....
Basically, his
hatred for me has now slopped over onto one of the most committed and
productive activists in our movement -- Rose Thomas, founder of fringefolk.com.
You should know
that neither Rose nor I ever called Hauptman a freeper, but that he did do that
to Rose on the
Voter Group:

roserose@e...
is a Freeper. I just did a search and she is a memer of the Republican
Party. Please ignore her. Thank you.
I will have
more to tell you about all of this soon, but in the meantime, please
send Rose a letter of support.
