Gay students
lobbying for discrimination protection in Florida schools got a jolting civics
lesson Monday from a lawmaker who welcomed them into his office only to
declare: "God ... is going to destroy you."
"I don't
understand why the gay population is becoming so vocal," state Rep. Allen
Trovillion, R- Winter Park, told the Orlando-area high school students.

"You are going to

principles."
[DIVA
NOTE: See http://www.coup2k.com/jesusking.html]
...Thomas Gentile,
19, sought to give the lawmaker a better sense of what gay students contend
with in Florida schools each day.
He described how he
was beaten during his freshman year in a Boca Raton high school classroom by
assailants who targeted him because of his sexual orientation. School
administrators suspended the attackers for one day. They also suspended
Gentile, he said, suggesting he provoked the violence by being "too openly
gay."
Trovillion was
unswayed.
"You have to
suffer the consequences of your actions," he told the group.
"The Scripture
says that no homosexual will see the Kingdom of God, and I can't put it much
straighter than that," Trovillion added.
"God destroyed
Sodom and Gomorrah, and he is going to destroy you and a lot of others."

LETTERS OF PROTEST TO MONSTER TROVILLION

From: Elizabeth A.
To: mailto:trovillion.allen@leg.state.fl.us
Subject: your message to gay
students
Dear Representative Trovillion:
I was dismayed to hear of your
remarks to gay students as reported in the Tampa Tribune. I believe that the same Bible that you think
says God hates homosexuals also accounts inter-racial marriage and divorce as
sins, and sees no problem with slavery.
And yet, reasonable people have acted to make the laws of the United
States more humane, just, and fair on those subjects. Furthermore, that same Bible also says, "Judge not, lest ye
be judged."
As a public servant, your job is
not to determine who will be going to Hell, or base laws on such
determinations. Your job is to
faithfully represent the interests and well-being of your constituents. The first right of every citizen is their
life, and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people of all ages often
live in fear for theirs. Even though I
disagree with your stance on homosexuality as a sin, even if you were right,
your job still would not be to stand by and condemn. Your job would be to take legislative action to stop violence,
especially in public institutions such as schools. It doesn't matter if you hate the people who are victims, or
consider them sinners. Your job demands
that you protect the rights and lives of the citizens of Florida as much as is
legislatively possible.
Please do your job.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth A.

You have been quoted as saying:
"You are going to
cause the downfall of this country that was built on Christian
principles."
to a victimized group of
homosexual students. To this I must
ask, who's Christian principles are you referring to? Some Christians support the civil and moral rights of people to
be gay, while some, obviously, do not.
Are you implying that one Christian sect's point of views are superior
to that of another's -- and do you plan on legislating, or not legislating as
the case may be, based on that principle? And for that matter, why is it,
specifically, that one must be "Christian" to begin with in order to
have you represent them?
The rights to free speech and
the freedom of religion are implicitly granted by the Bill of Rights, and as a
benevolent representative of a democratic people, it is your responsibility to
help ensure that those rights are not infringed upon. Furthering the agenda of one specific religious sect or group of
sects in opposition to the health, safety, and unimpeded expression of your
constituents (yes, that includes gay people) is undemocratic, against the
spirit of the Constitution, and just plain foolish. Furthermore, your stance in this matter promotes a trend of
domestic terrorism aimed at innocent homosexuals. Yes, Senator, your stance does not simply label you as anti-gay,
but as PRO-TERRORISM. Please bear these
facts in mind when addressing this matter in the future.
Sincerely,
The Voice of Reason
[DIVA NOTE: I believe the rights of freedom of speech
and freedom of religion are EXPLICITLY granted by the Bill of Rights; whereas
the right to privacy is IMPLICIT in that document, and the writings of its
authors.]

Mr. Trovillion:
According to the Tampa Tribune,
you recently told a group of gay students, “The Scripture says that no
homosexual will see the kingdom of God, and I can't put it much straighter than
that.”
I have seen other so-called
Christians make this claim, but I have never found the passage of Scripture
that says this. Perhaps you have a different version of Scripture than I have.
Or perhaps some pages are missing from yours; specifically, the pages that
include these passages:
1 Corinthians 13:13, “And now
abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is
charity.”
Luke 6:36, “Judge not, and ye
shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and
ye shall be forgiven.”
Matthew 22:39, “Thou shalt love
thy neighbor as thyself.”
John 8:8, “He that is without
sin among you, let him first cast a stone.”
Luke 6:42, “Thou hypocrite, cast
out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to
pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.”
Mark 7:6-7, “This people
honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do
they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
Matthew 23:13, “But woe unto
you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven
against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are
entering to go in.
Considering that you specifically
told the students they will not see the Kingdom of God, Jesus might have been
talking directly to you in that last passage. Are you listening to Him, or are
you listening to your own self-righteousness?
Sincerely,
Maia C.

Rep. Trovillion,
These kinds of statements
reported by Ann-Marie Manchise of the Tampa Tribune and attributed to you are
child abuse. These were public school
kids, not your private gaybashing audience.
[TEXT OF TAMPA TRIBUNE

Pure and simple, cruelty. What on earth were you thinking Sir? Shall someone call Social Services in
Florida? This is outrageous. If you disagree with Gay rights, okay, too
bad. But to invite these kids into your
office so that you may personally condemn them to Hell is unconscionable. You sir have no compassion. In fact, you seem rather a zealot.
Next time, leave our children

ACTION ALERT!!!! Monster on the Loose in Florida!
Rep. Trovillion:
The Tampa Tribune reports gay
students lobbying for discrimination protection in Florida schools got a
jolting civics lesson Monday from a lawmaker (you) who welcomed them into his
office only to declare: "God ... is going to destroy you."
Just who made you spokesman for
God? What revelation did you have to give you power of judgment on others?
Jesus said, Matthew 7:1-2
1 "Do not judge, or
you too will be judged.
2 For in the same way you
judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be
measured to you.
A Christian must be very careful
about judging others. If you are a Christian, then you should believe what
Christ has said, "Judge not. "The more harshly you judge, the greater
will be your judgment.
However, Jesus did say, "By their fruit you will know them." St. Paul said, "The love of
money [greed] is the root of all evil."
Your party and your president
display a great amount of greed. Are we to believe St. Paul and by your actions
know you, your party and your president are evil?
Perhaps, you and your president
are hypocrites and not Christians. You only pretended to be to get votes, in
that you have no fear of Jesus' warning at all.
Sincerely,
Joe F.

This is a paradox: it's
shocking, but not surprising. He's a
republican in the south. Probably a
"good" Christian churchgoer.
Probably sits next to Katherine Harris in the front pew.
I was raised a Christian, and I
just happen to be gay. I can't recall
ANYTHING in my upbringing that told me it was OK to hate people because they
are different from me. Christ was a
sensitive, caring person who embraced outcasts.
Phone calls and emails are one
thing, but I'm wondering if there isn't a way to organize, galvanize and
energize the sane people of Florida to ensure that this evil man is voted out
of office in the next election.
It's doubtful that we'll ever
change the minds of hateful, close-minded Republicans who listen to Rush
Limbaugh every day. But it seems to me
that there is time to organize a grassroots movement to fight this evil idiocy.
Remember Anita Bryant? I recall how dismayed I was when she was
getting so much attention. But people
wised up and she lost her job as the spokesperson for Florida orange
juice. Last I heard, she was working in
a dress shop.
History could repeat itself. .
.it just could.

Subject: Gay Remarks
It has come to me attention that
you recently met with a group of openly gay students in Florida and your
remarks were less than supportive.
While we are all entitled to our own opinions, your remarks are no
better than that of Adolf Hiter. You will probably never face the type of hate
that gays and lesbians face. You will
probably never never have a gun pointed to your head and told to "die
faggot". You will probably never
see your own brother die of an illness that some bigots like youself feel that
they "brought it on themsleves".
These things will probably never happen to you nor do you care. You are unfit to serve in public office. I thank God that I live in a community and
have a loving family that is opened minded and supportive. Those are true ideals of real
Chirstians. You, sir are nothing less
than a hateful bigot. You will never
have the honor of meeting my brother.
He died of AIDS in 1989. He IS
in a better place now.
It's a good thing you live in
Florida. Because where you're going,
you'll need to get used to heat.

Dear Gov. Bush,
I am shocked by the hateful
remarks made by Rep. Trovillion to a group of gay students. It's words like his that fuel the fires of
homophobia that lead to violence against gays and lesbians.
Rep. Trovillion's words are
worthy of a KKK member and not those of a member of the Florida State or any
government.
As Governor of the State of
Florida, you need to speak out. I look

Step down from your
position . You are heartless and vile. You need to live by yourself in a cave.
How dare you make statements as; "The Scripture says that no homosexual
will see the Kingdom of God, and I can't put it much straighter than
that," Trovillion added.
What scripture is
this?
What bible do you
read this in?
You are a disgrace
to public office and should resign immediately!!!!
And I hope that when
you are saying grace tonight, that you ask God to forgive you for passing
judgment on one of his sons. Because brother, he is the only one to do
this. Allow me to remind you that---
YOU ARE NOT GOD!!!
**********
I hope he reads this and thinks
about it. Probably not, but it sure doesn't hurt to let him know how we all
think. Especially if a large group of us will do it.
Keep up the good work. You're
doing a great job and I am behind you all the way.
